Yellow Surprise

It’s funny… it’s only the second day of my 100 cake/100 days project, and I am indecisive as to what to make for today. It’s raining here this morning, so maybe I’ll make my grandmother’s (Emma Newton) classic yellow-cake. Her old-fashioned, mouthwatering yellow surprise – as she called it - epitomized the best of old-world baking coupled with the enthusiasm of her Bahamian ancestry.

So, there it is. Today, I am honoring the baking-craftsmanship of my grandmother by making her “Yellow Surprise.” Thank you momma for the gift of baking; but, most importantly, thank you for your great gift of love. Miss you “Momma.”
